Many of my clients are fearful of going to the doctor or psychiatrist, in case they will be sectioned or told that their problem it is all in their mind and imagination. As it happens, people who are given a label will tend to live up to that label. Indeed this happens also to therapists who have fixed ideas about the non-existence of negative spiritual energies and entities. They too might, at least in their mind, consider the client mentally ill. These therapists confer their lack of belief to the client who as a consequence feels that there is nowhere to go and no one that can help them.
We must work with the belief system of the client and not our own. Either way, if we work with the client beliefs we can help them. If we don’t they will feel rejected and even more desperate. This does not mean that the client is not mentally ill or possessed and damaged by demonic type sources. It is the platform from which we begin to work with the client.
Please remember that if you are the therapist you need to protect yourself from highly negative energies and forces. Not to believe is no protection. It might be dangerous. In my own experience, it is indeed very foolish.
I believe that both mental illness and extreme spiritual problems exist in their own right. Perhaps, in most cases, spiritual problems can not be put down to mental illness or vice versa.
