Part's one and two are essential for attaining total peace and relaxation. Physical, emotionally and mentally. Plus dissociation of body from mind.
Part One
Close your eye's and imagine yourself in a relaxing, safe place of your own choosing. If you experience difficulty with this, create your own imaginary place. After a little time experiencing this and feeling the tension from your body flowing away, clear your mind of all conscious thought's or picture's.
Part Two
Ignore, totally everything that comes into your mind. Thought's, pictures or anything else. Do not move to the next stage until you can do this. You then have control of your mind. It is essential for the next stages that you have this control.
Part Three
You can now if you wish to, move onto concentrating one ONE thought or vision / pictures without the conscious mind interfering. This is also helpful in developing all form's of problem solving, learning and visualisation for any reason. Changing one's own fixed or learn't attitudes or behaviour's. It can also be helpful in combating physical illness, pain or problem's such as phobia's, insecurity and lack of confidence etc.
Part Four
Create a sanctuary within one's self. This can be a relaxed place such as a comfortable room. A field full of flower's, the edge of a lake or river and even the top of a mountain. This is a place where you can choose to go at any time to be on your own, at peace. Or you can invite any spiritual being's that you trust to join you there. It is an ideal place to get to know your own spirit. Most people do not know their own spirit. This greatly enhances mediumship as well as feeling close to your own internal spirit. You can also also your spirit guide's and helper's to join you individually or as a group. You can even ask anAngel or higher spirtual being e.g. ascended master, Jesus or God to be present with you. You can then ask for spiritual help and guidance or just support to help you with your daily life.
The title of this meditation is Sitting In the Power and was taught by my spiritual mentor's. I beleive that Buddhist's would say, in true meditation the body and the mind become as if separated. It is then possible to ask your subconscious mind to look after everything to do with the physical body, so freeingyou to concentrate on the purpose of the meditation, without bodily distractions. At this level you become totally unaware of your physical body and it's physical distraction's. Meditation does not have to or need to be for a spiritual purpose (see part one, two and three). There are many other form's and reason's for meditation, depending upon what spiritual belief's you may have or indeed if it is just used for relaxation and achieving peace and tranquility. Some believe that meditation is not trance - altered states of mind. I personally believe that trance and or altered states are an integral part of the meditation process.
